Bag of Bones I stared at the object, feeling the box with my fingers. A pregnancy test. I continued to stare at it trying to make sense of it all. We had always wanted children. We had been trying for a long time. I then realized that I would never be able to have a child with Jo. I became confused. Wouldn’t she have told me if she had missed a period? Why would she keep happy news from me? Maybe she wanted to be sure before she told me. That had to be it. I couldn’t bear to think that it was anything else. Our marriage was a happy one.
